About the Memory Match card game

Memory Match combines recognizing symbols with remembering their locations. Cards begin face-down. Flip two at a time: matching symbols stay paired, while different symbols show briefly before turning back. Use what you have already seen to find every pair on the board.

Choose 12 cards with 6 pairs, 16 with 8 pairs or 24 with 12 pairs. Turning over the second card completes one attempt and counts as a move, whether it matches or not. Alongside clearing the board, compare your move count, elapsed time and pairing efficiency.

Features in this version

Three board sizes

Larger boards add more locations to remember. Each new game shuffles the cards. Matched pairs leave the active search, reducing the number of remaining possibilities.

Touch and keyboard

Tap cards on a phone, or use arrow keys followed by Enter or Space on a computer. Wait for a mismatched pair to turn back before starting the next attempt.

Hints and saved play

A hint briefly highlights a matching pair without completing it. Progress saves locally, and pauses or background activity stop the timer. Assisted games do not count toward best times without hints.

Getting started

  1. Explore cards in rows or columns and attach each symbol to a stable location, such as the top-left corner or the middle of the second row.
  2. Reveal an unfamiliar card first, then check whether you know its partner. Complete known pairs to reduce the amount of information still needed.
  3. Treat a mismatch as two useful clues. Pause long enough to remember both locations instead of immediately opening more cards.

Frequently asked questions

Does revealing one card count as a move?

No. Revealing the second card completes an attempt and adds one move, whether the pair matches or not. A move count closer to the total pair count generally means better efficiency.

Does a hint complete a pair automatically?

No. It briefly marks the pair's locations; you must still flip and match the cards. Hints are counted, and assisted games do not set a best time without hints.

What happens to cards and timing during a pause?

The cards are hidden and the timer stops. Background activity and refreshed saves also pause play until you resume. Saves belong to the current browser and do not sync across devices.
