About this game
About the Minesweeper logic puzzle
Minesweeper asks you to locate hidden mines using nearby numbers. A revealed number counts mines in its eight neighboring cells. Blank cells have no adjacent mines and open connected safe areas. Combine clues from several numbers to decide which covered cells are safe.
Choose a 9 × 9 board with 10 mines, a 16 × 16 board with 40, or a 30 × 16 board with 99. Your first reveal and its eight neighbors are protected. After that, rely on the clues. Reveal every non-mine cell to win; manually flagging every mine is not required.
Features in this version
Protected first reveal
Mines are placed only when you open your first cell. That cell and its neighbors are mine-free. Placing flags beforehand does not generate mines or start the timer.
Flags and chording
Right-click, press F or use Flag mode to mark a cell. Click a number again when its neighboring flag count matches to open the other neighbors. Wrong flags can still expose a mine.
Timing and review
Timing starts on the first reveal and stops during pauses or background activity. A loss reveals mines and incorrect flags for review. Wins record a best time for that difficulty.
Getting started
- If the remaining covered neighbors exactly match a number's unmarked mines, all those cells must contain mines.
- If a number's confirmed neighboring mines already account for its value, its other covered neighbors are safe. Verify your flags before chording.
- Compare the covered areas shared by adjacent numbers. Overlapping clues can eliminate possibilities that one number alone cannot resolve.
Frequently asked questions
Does zero mines left mean every flag is correct?
No. The counter subtracts flags placed from the total mine count; it does not verify their locations. Use nearby numbers to confirm flags and reveal every safe cell to win.
Why can clicking a revealed number expose a mine?
Chording checks the neighboring flag count, not the correctness of each flag. Incorrectly placed flags can cause a real mine to be opened even when the count matches.
How do I view the Expert board on a phone?
Scroll sideways within the board to explore the minefield, or move the selection with arrow keys. The page adapts to the screen, and progress saves in the same browser.
